Project Description
HCM Shotcrete assisted the City of Barrie care of BGL with the restoration of two reinforced concrete aerobic reactor tanks. The tanks were deteriorated above the water line due to microbially induced corrosion (MIC) – deterioration that is common to aerobic environments (man holes, sewer pipes, bio-reactors, etc.).
HCM Shotcrete addressed the MIC by removing corroded concrete, installing supplementary reinforcing steel, and placing a new 100mm thick shotcrete liner complete with microbial induced corrosion inhibitor (Conshiled).
Despite confined space restrictions and access limitations (a 900mm x 900mm hatch at the top of the reactor), crews were able to prepare 500m2 of corroded concrete, install 12,000kg of reinforcing steel, and place approximately 50m3 of vertical and overhead concrete in about 50 working days.
